One Direction – Live While We’re Young

Despite being scheduled to officially premiere this evening, the new One Direction track (and accompanying video) has leaked, ostensibly after being played earlier on Russian telly! Don’t you just love that!

What’s it like? Well, essentially it’s What Makes You Beautiful pt. 2 – it isn’t as good as said track, but by managing to sound at least 75% similar, it’s sure to go down a storm with the fans. The fact remains, One Direction are incredibly good at what they do – producing first rate teen pop; and Live While We’re Young is a suitably breezy masterclass in just that.

Also, for all that you might associate One Direction with innocent tween pop, let’s just pause for a moment here and consider that Live While We’re Young is essentially focused around the boys wanting to ‘get some’. Do we need to spell it out for you? When they sing ‘get some’, they basically mean sex. We’ve long thought of One Direction as appropriating the ‘lad’ ethos to traditional boy-band tropes, but this really takes it to new levels. We wonder what all the parents will think…

Also, as Popjustice has pointed out – doesn’t that opening guitar riff sound just a bit like Green Day’s Know Your Enemy?

Released: 1st October.

One direction suck, talentless idiots who care more about their hair than the music. And yeah the riff sounds just like Green Day.
